Many women experience painful cramping before and during their periods. This problem most commonly affects teenagers and women in their early twenties.

The frequency of the menstrual cramps decreases with age, and the severity of the period pain varies from one person to another.

Fortunately, there are some simple methods of relieving the pain, which don’t involve using any painkillers. Here are 7 tips that can help you to ease or stop your period pain.

1. Eat Foods Rich in Nutrients

A highly nutritious diet will help you to relieve your period cramps and pain. You should consume foods that are rich in various essential minerals and vitamins, such as ginger, cinnamon, green vegetables, dry fruit juices, eggs, and fish. Also, you should avoid eating fast food and processed sugar.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

In order to reduce the bloating during your period, you need to drink water as much as you can. By doing so, you will increase your blood circulation and relax the cramped muscles.

During your menstrual days, you should drink 8 to 10 glasses of water on a daily basis.

3. Take More Vitamin D

The vitamin D will help you to decrease the pain that occurs during your period. You can get more of this vitamin either by taking vitamin D supplements or by consuming foods that contain high levels of it.

Some of the best sources of vitamin D are orange juice, egg yolks, soy milk, cheese, cereal, and fatty fish, such as salmon and tuna.

4. Add More Calcium

During your painful period days, you should consume foods that are rich in calcium. This mineral will help you to reduce the menstrual cramps.

5. Keep Your Abdominal Area Warm

You can reduce the period pain by applying heat in your lower abdominal area. You should put a bottle with warm water on the lower abdomen, and you will notice an instant pain relief.

Also, you should take hot baths or showers since the warm water will relax your body and reduce your cramps.

6. Reduce the Intake of Caffeine

If you reduce the intake of caffeine, you will minimize the cramps and relieve the tension. You should substitute the coffee with tea.

Also, instead of drinking green tea, you should consume teas that don’t contain any caffeine, such as the ginger tea. The intake of caffeine will dehydrate your body.

As a result, your body will retain more water which will increase the bloating.

7. Avoid Consuming Foods That Cause Bloating

While having a period, you should avoid consuming fatty foods, grains, as well as carbonated beverages. These foods can be responsible for increasing the bloating which normally occurs during the menstrual cycle.
