We can do everything to live in a healthy manner. We can eat right by ensuring we have all the right nutrients in our body, and a balance of protein, carbohydrates, fat, dairy, fruit and veg. We can work out and exercise, jog or go to the gym and partake in yoga or pilates.

We can do everything the right way, but a healthy body is only a healthy body if it has a healthy mind.

How to have a Healthy Mind?

  • Meditate.
  • Practice mindfulness.
  • Exercise.
  • Eat well.
  • Embrace simplicity.
  • Change your expectations.
  • Be generous.
  • Be kind.
  • Let go of anger.
  • Think positively.
  • Be creative.

Letting go of anger or resentment is a very important topic. Things happen in life that may make us bitter and twisted. It could be a husband who strays. A wife who didn’t do something the way you expected. A parent who you feel let you down. A child who is delinquent.

It is really important to work through the things that go wrong in your life and to let go of the bitterness and anger that may come with these things. Carrying bitterness and anger around, like carrying a grudge, can be toxic. It can be toxic for your mind and for your body.

How does one let go of Anger?

Forgiveness is a large part of letting go. It may not be very easy to forgive, someone may have caused you terrible damage. You may not want to forgive. Nobody says you have to. But you do need to learn to live with the damage that has been caused. You need to learn to move on. This may mean getting professional help in dealing with the cause of your anger. A therapist or a good councilor can help. It may be communicating with the person who has caused your anger. And it may be doing something physical.

Try the following:

  • Meditation
  • Mindfulness
  • Yoga
  • Tai Chi
  • A walk in the park.
  • Slow breathing.
  • Seeking help from a professional
  • Communicating.
  • Be aware and conscious of the issues.
  • Tackle the issues.
  • Create

Being creative, by the way, is a really good way to clear the mind, think rationally and feel good about yourself. It can be a drawing or a painting. It can be writing, a poem or a short story, perhaps even a diary. It can be pottery or beading. And baking too. All of these things make you feel calmer. You don’t have to be talented because whatever you do, you are doing for yourself.

There is no pressure to be perfect.

Teach your children to let go of anger too.

It’s important to be a good role model and to have a good role model. If the person around you is always shouting and yelling, you are going to shout and yell too. Teach your children, or your partner, the importance of staying calm. Teach them the importance of breathing slowly. (it is called yogic breathing). And teach them the importance of taking time out.

Everyone needs time out. We have busy days and frantic schedules. Somehow, in the day, find time to do something that is for you. Here are a few ideas:

  • A walk in the park.
  • An indulgent fantasy movie.
  • Some gardening.
  • Drawing or doodling.
  • Perhaps a massage.
  • A manicure.
  • Quick tea date.
  • Read a book.
  • Listen to music.
  • Anything, solitary or not, that is all about you.

Anger, and resentment, build up over time. You may not be aware at how much it is weighing you down. Take a good long look at yourselves and the things you worry about daily. Think of the things that prey on your mind or that you perhaps think about obsessively.

Are they causing you damage? Yes? Work hard at letting them go.
